- Laverne Smith Vaughan, 92, died Monday, February 1, 2010, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory.
Born June 20, 1917 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Almos Lee and Julia Caroline Herndon Smith. A lifelong resident of Monroe County, she married George Lewis Vaughan in 1935; he died in 1998. She was a retired merchant and a member of the Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed needlework, puzzles, and reading.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. today at the E..E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kay Farrar (Stanley) of Hatley and Mary Carolyn Parham (Hugh) of Clinton, MS; one sister, Jimmie Wiygul of Arley, AL; six grandchildren, Michael Farrar (Kim), Sidney Farrar (Mitzi), Suzanne Knight (Joey), Jason Parham (Shannon), Justin Farrar (Emily), and Blake Parham; and 13 great grandchildren, Russ, Whit, Telina, Amy Frances, Alex, Jared, Maci, Molli, Maggie, Reid, Matthew, Luke, and Riley; and one great great grandchild, Cooper. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Reba Montgomery, and Eloise Prestridge; and an infant son, Bobby Van Vaughan. Pallbearers will be Michael Farrar, Sidney Farrar, Joey Knight, Jason Parham, Justin Farrar, and Blake Parham. Visitation will be noon until service time today at the funeral home.
