    Dan W Bridges Dies at 94 - Daniel William Bridges, pioneer Houston retired farmer, died at 12:30 Sunday morning at the Houston Hospital. He was 94. Funeral services were conducted from the Houston Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm, Monday, Jan. 19, with the Rev. Ira Bright officiating. Interment was in the Houston Cemetery. Mr. Bridges was born in Houston March 22, 1875. He was the son of John and Katherine Weaver Bridges. He was a member of the Arbor Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Daniel Tuberville of Houston; two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

    Pioneer County Resident Dies - Funeral services for Mrs. Annie B Bridges, 91, pioneer, lifelong resident of Chickasaw county, who died at her home on Houston, Route 3, at 3:45 am, Friday, July 7, were conducted from the Houston Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm, Saturday, July 8, with the Rev. W F Clark officiating. nterment was in the Houston Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Melvin Tuberville, Charles Bennett, Melvin Bennett, Elkin Heair, and Ellis Heair. Mrs. Bridges was born April 12, 1877, the daughter of James Brassfield and Mary E Turnage Brassfield. She was a member of the Arbor Grove Baptist Church. She leaves her husband, Dan Bridges of Houston; a daughter, Mrs. D R Tuberville of Houston; two grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

    I have seen records that James Augustus Brasfield also went by J.G. Brasfield. The 1910 Chickasaw County census shows a J. G. Brasfield 72, wife Mary E. 68, son Wm. L. 14, son Jas. C. 12, son-in-law D. W. Bridges 31, daughter Sophronia 32, grandson Clyde Bridges 5, and daughter Annie Brasfield. Do you know if Wm L. and Jas. C. are the sons of James Augustus/J.G. or perhaps grandsons? I'm looking for a Cleveland (possibly James Cleveland) Brasfield born 1898 in Chickasaw County, MS. Appreciate any help.

    Michael, I went back to the library today and found a book "Greene County Alabama Records" by Marshall. I found the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In it I found the following:

    Malissa Brasfield - April 24, 1844/May 23, 1869
    Roeney wife of J. Brasfield - d. May 12, 1844
    Inf. son J. & Roeney Brasfield - June 10, 1830/June 18, 1836 Inf. son J., & Roeney Brasfield - April 4, 1844/May 20, 1844

    Does this blow our theory out of the water or does it open a can of worms?

    John married CARPENTER, Rowena on 5 Jan 1833 in Greene, Alabama, USA. Rowena was born about 1806 in Alabama, USA; died on 12 May 1844 in Greene, Alabama, USA; was buried in Greene County, Alabama (Pleasant Hill Cemetery). [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Michael, on William Leon Brassfield 8-12-1896 - 12-15-1967 1 - why is one child name withheld? 2 - why is spouse on James Albert withheld? Then on Rowena Carpenter - In searching in books named "Alabama Records" I found in Greene County in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Lewiston a listing for Roeney wife of J. Brasfield d. May 12, 1844. Could this possibly be Rowena Carpenter who married John "Jackey" Brasfield? He married a second time January 2, 1847 to Rebecca Valentine in Greene County. This would fall into the time frame for them. Rowena's last baby, Levi, was born in 1843. Would like your input. Dorothy Brasfield dbras@bellsouth.net 7/21/2001 I found this information in some books at the Shreve Memorial Library in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are about 245 volumes "Alabama Records" and they include marriages, wills, deaths, cemetery, and etc. This information on Roeney was in volume 192, page 58.
