Erwin Sr. born 12-22-1709 in Crimond Aberdeen, Scotland and died 1770 in Rowan Co. N.C. He married Agness McCorkle or Patterson born 1717 in Ireland and died before2-14-1771 in Burke Co. N.C. They had a son named James N. Erwin Jr. born 1746 in Chester Co. Pa. and died 1794 in Adam Co. Ms. He married Jeanette Andrews born about 1748 in Salisburg, Rowan Co. N.C. and died after 1796 in Adams Co. Ms. They had a son named William H. Erwin who married Mary Lacry Brasfield. They had a daughter named Margaret Erwin who married Lot Garrison.
