2. | BROOKS, Erastus Otis was born on 26 Jun 1843 (son of BROOKS, Alvin and FREER, Pheba). Notes: Erastus (E.O.) married Sarah C. White. She was one of two ladies captured by the Indians, he was in the rescue party. I'm not sure if he was assigned to Custer's command, the Kansas Volunteers, or another. After the rescue of Sarah and a Mrs. Morgan I don't know except they wound up getting married approx. six months after the rescue. Norman Charles Brooks (brother to E.O.) their father was Alvin Brooks.there was other bros. and sisters which I didn't name, could get them for you if you desired. The raid, actually there was at least two, the one when they took Sarah captive, occured Oct 13, 1868, rescued March 22,1869 according to an article published in the Kansas City Star. Mrs. Morgans' maiden name was Anna Brewster and her capture was in a separate raid. Does that clarify anything? Hubert Erastus married WHITE, Sarah Catherine on 1 Dec 1869. Sarah (daughter of WHITE, Benjamin and GOOD, Mary) was born on 10 Dec 1850; died on 11 May 1939. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
