    Brassfield, Elvis John > JEFFERSON - Elvis John Brassfield, age 85, of Jefferson, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Fort Memorial Hospital. Born on Nov. 7, 1920, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Floyd and Thelma (Hunt) Brassfield. He married Dorothy Fowlie of Lake City, Iowa, on Sept. 18, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Lake City High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and did his training at various bases in Texas before being sent to England. There, with his crew, he flew as a nose gunner in the 8th Air Force. They flew 35 missions over Germany. After discharge in 1945, he returned home and became a farmer. He and his wife raised four children. In 1964, he and his family moved to Wisconsin where they dairy farmed near Waterloo for eight years before moving to Jefferson in 1972. Elvis was farm manager at Countryside Home for six years until the farm operation was closed, worked one year as a service dairy equipment mechanic for A to Z in Watertown, and worked 11 years as service mechanic for John Deere Implement in Wales. Upon his retirement he worked eight years at Super Wash in Jefferson. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Jefferson. He was a member of Endl-Gruennert Congressional Medal of Honor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3589 of Jefferson and Reinhardt-Windl American Legion Post 164 of Jefferson. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Jefferson; three sons, John (Elizabeth) Brassfield of Marshall, David (Linda) Brassfield of River Falls, and Robert (Pamela) Brassfield of Johnson Creek; a daughter, Diane (Philip) Meng of Fort Atkinson; two grandsons, Daryl and Robert Brassfield; three granddaughters, Michelle Brassfield, Jennifer Shepler and Rebecca Pederson; three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kelsey and Caden Pederson; step grandchildren, Leah Synstad, Mary Nile and Paul and Daniel Meng; step great-grandchildren, Kurt Hamar and Erin and Adam Meng; three sisters, Irene (Tom) Ireland of Vancouver, Washington, Joyce (Dale) Christensen of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and Karon (Boyd) Yaden of Clackamas, Ore.; several nieces and nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty; and aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held at IMMANUEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Jefferson, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2006, with the Rev. Nancy Carmichael officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Union Cemetery in Jefferson. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Monday after 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the church, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. The Olsen Funeral Home in Jefferson is assisting the family.
