Mike,
On everything I've come across having to do with the Browns, the spelling has always been Brassfield.

On 18 Oct 1899 in Keosauqua, Van Buren county, Iowa, Jared A. Brassfield marrried Lucy Brown. On 1900 Census, Village Twp, Van Buren county, Iowa, Jared and Lucy are listed with Lloyd Brown and family. Also listed are Lewis LeRoy and Charles E. Brassfield, ages 15 and 13 (possibly from a previous Jared marriage?)
In 1916 obituary in Idaho Daily Statesman, Boise, ID: John Ancel Brassfield, 12 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Brassfield, died at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Orlando Robbins, on Friday, 28 July 1916
Jared apparently went by Judd: Shoshone Journal, Shoshone, Idaho, 6 Nov 1899: Judd Brassfield and Miss Lucy Brown were united in the Holy bonds of Matrimony, at Leander, Iowa last week.
Never did run across his middle name; only initial A.
Hope this will be of some help to you. Floyd
