He is survived by his daughter, Katy of Pleasanton, Calif.; sons, Brian of Las Vegas and Benjamin of Pleasanton; and parents, Jean and Oscar, both of Las Vegas. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services at 2 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary-Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

    Oscar "Rocky" Brassfield, 77, died Friday at a Las Vegas hospital. He was born March 26, 1923, in Oklahoma. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a retired carpenter, a member of Carpenter's Union Local 1977, and a 39-year resident of Las Vegas. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Las Vegas; brothers, Arthur of Michigan and Joe of Oklahoma; sisters, Clara Cooper and Alice Circuso, both of California; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, followed by graveside services at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

A retired registered nurse, she was retired from management in a hotel-casino and a 38-year resident of Las Vegas. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Vogel of Las Vegas, Ruby Currigan of Omaha, Neb., Edith Bauer of Topeka, Kan., and Mary Hook of Redwood Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern with graveside services at 1 p.m. at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. The family requests memorial donations be made to Salvation Army.

    John was the son of Thomas Benton Brassfield and Mary V. (Delk) Brassfield. He married Sarah Isabelle (Belle) Treat 28 August 1892 in St. Joe, Searcy Co., Arkansas. They had nine children. Sarah died in 1915. John married sometime between 1915 and 1920 to Ada Bell Johnson (maiden name is unknown). She was either a widow or divorced with two children. Sarah is buried next to John. Ada's place of burial is unknown. It is said that she also died in 1937.
