    Information from Brenda Scroggins Sawyer, Texas City, Texas 77590.; Smith Scroggins Junior was born 1829 in Wake County, North Carolina and died October 8, 1863 in Cleburne's Division Field Hospital near Alexander's Bridge after the Battle of Chickamauga in Georgia. He married Ellender Wells on November 1, 1849 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. They were married by Martin Towery. Notes for Smith Scorggins Junior: Smith moved with his family between 1829 and 1832 to Lincoln County, Tennessee near Fayetteville. Around 1856 Smith moved his family to Tishomingo County, Mississippi near Jacinto. Smith served in the Confederate Army during the Civil war in Company A of the 32 Mississippi Volunteer Infantry. Regiment. He was mortally wounded on September 20, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga. He died of gunshot wounds on October 8, 1863 in Cleburne's Division Field Hospital at Alexander's Bridge near the Battlefield. His brother Abner (A.) Scroggins was on duty as a cook at this hospital at the time of his death. Smith was elected to the Condederate Roll of Honor by his comrades in Company A for his actions at the Battle of Chickamauga.

    Smith married HOLT, Ellender on 1 Nov 1849 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Ellender was born about Apr 1830 in Lincoln County, Tennessee; died on 19 Aug 1904 in Lamar, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
