Erwin Sr. born 12-22-1709 in Crimond Aberdeen, Scotland and died 1770 in Rowan Co. N.C. He married Agness McCorkle or Patterson born 1717 in Ireland and died before2-14-1771 in Burke Co. N.C. They had a son named James N. Erwin Jr. born 1746 in Chester Co. Pa. and died 1794 in Adam Co. Ms. He married Jeanette Andrews born about 1748 in Salisburg, Rowan Co. N.C. and died after 1796 in Adams Co. Ms. They had a son named William H. Erwin who married Mary Lacry Brasfield. They had a daughter named Margaret Erwin who married Lot Garrison. today, taking in what is now Amite Co., and parts of other counties as well. Amite County was formed in 1809, four years after this particular census.

Parts of the paper missing and some names smeared. I have put ‘..’ for parts
that I can not read or am unsure of. I know some names are wrong. Some of them make no sense at all, but I tried to decipher them letter by letter.

Erwin was the youngest child of James Erwin and Jennet Andrews. William and his family lived in Natchez, Mississippi, for several years until late 1829 or early 1830, when several of his immediate family moved to East Baton Rouge Parish Louisiana. William H. died in East Baton Rouge on January 9, 1832. According to the Title Page of the Bible, it is "an exposition of the New Testament...in three volumes... by John Gill, D.D...." It was published in Philadelphia in 1811. It was "printed by and for William W. Woodward." The Bible is presently owned by Jesse L. Garrison of Liberty, Mississippi. With his permission, it was transcribed and made available by Sylvia Kelly Smith of 105 Fleetwood Drive, Franklinton, LA 70438; Sylvia's e-mail address is saks@huntnet.net.
