  1. 2.  BRASFIELD, Daniel Herschel was born on 21 Aug 1875 in Yountville, Napa, California, USA (son of BRASFIELD, Wiley Edwards and BURNETT, Francis J); died on 12 May 1943 in Napa, California, USA; was buried in Yountville, Napa, California, USA.

Daniel married FINNIGAN, Ada Margaret on 19 Feb 1912 in San Francisco, California, USA. Ada (daughter of FINNIGAN, Daniel Joseph and GUERIN, Lillian M.) was born on 10 Nov 1889 in California, USA; died on 6 Nov 1971 in El Monte, Los Angeles, California, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  FINNIGAN, Ada Margaret was born on 10 Nov 1889 in California, USA (daughter of FINNIGAN, Daniel Joseph and GUERIN, Lillian M.); died on 6 Nov 1971 in El Monte, Los Angeles, California, USA.

    Notes:

    Mike:

Here are the basics of what I know about Ada's family:

Her parents were Daniel Joseph Finnigan (born April 30, 1866 in San Francisco, died February 12, 1926 in Los Angeles) and Lillian M. Guerin (born December 11, 1870 in San Francisco, died January 03, 1899 in Los Angeles). Daniel and Lillian were both full-blooded Irish. Daniel was a plasterer by trade and for many years owned Pacific Plaster Company in Los Angeles.

Lillian died when Ada and siblings were small children. Until Daniel remarried a few years later he was not able to care for them since he had to work during the day and had no family nearby to watch them. As a result he had to put them in Catholic orphanages during that period. The boys went into St. Catherine's Orphan Asylum, in Anaheim, California, while the girls went into St. Catherine's Orphan Asylum in San Bernardino, California. They show up there on the 1900 census. I understand that Lillian is buried in a Catholic cemetery in Belvedere Gardens, near Los Angeles.

The other children apart from Ada were my great-grandmother Florence Mae (born March 03, 1891, died November 20, 1986), Edward, and John (who went by his middle name of Arthur).

Unfortunately I know nothing about Lillian's parents other than that they were Irish and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Daniel's parents were Edward Finnigan and Catherine, last name unknown, apparently both born in Ireland. Daniel, parents, and Daniel's siblings show up on the 1880 census in San Francisco. (Edward's name is spelled simply Edw. on the census, and Catherine's name is given as Catharine.) Edward also shows up in a boarding house (occupation plasterer) on the 1900 census in San Francisco.

My grandmother and I have looked high and low trying to take the Finnigans or Guerins back beyond that, but so far with no luck. If you have any additional information -- or come across any in the future -- we would be grateful if you could share it. I hope this was of some interest to you.

I am copying my grandmother Virginia on this message. Feel free to write to either of us if you have any questions.

    Best regards,

    George

Wiley E. Brasfield, a son of Leonard Brasfield, was born in Clay County, Missouri, November 19, 1837. He was brought up to farming on the paternal acres and managed to secure such an education as the times offered. It, however, laid the basis for the acquirement of a practical kind of knowledge, which Mr. Brasfield has gained by assiduous reading. He followed farming till 1863, when he pushed across the plains with a mule-team by way of Salt Lake. He stopped over on his journey a few months in Nevada and arrived in Colusa County January 31, 1864. He located on Grand Island and resumed his former calling of a farmer, which he continued up to the year 1882, when he moved to College City in order to afford his children an opportunity to attend the college at that place. Mr. Brasfield was married, at Woodland, October 9, 1865, to Miss Fannie J. Barnett, daughter of Elder G. O. Barnett. His wife died December 5, 1889, leaving his five children.

In May, 1883, Mr. Brasfield was appointed County Surveyor for an unexpired term, and in 1884, 1886 and 1888 was re-elected to that office. As a public officer he has been accommodating and efficient, as is testified by his long occupancy of office.

Leonard BRASFIELD, Jr. I was born in Prince William Co., Va., a few miles northwest of what is since known as the Bull Run Battle ground, on the first day of June, 1800. I was left an orphan boy in 1816, and traveled to Kentucky with an orphan brother in 1818. I removed from Woodford Co., Ky., to Clay Co., Mo., in the fall of 1830. I have paid tax and worked roads forty years in Clay Co. I don't owe at this time any man a dollar. I formerly voted the Whig ticket, but I am now disfranchised.
