    Notes:

    Mike,
It was with the greatest pleasure that I found the name of Parker B. Brasfield and Faustina ? on the Ancestry.com website and they switched me to you. Though not a direct descendant of the Brasfield line; I can tell you that the two sons of Parker Benton Brasfield and Faustina Verlett McBroom married in Rosedale Mississippi and Parker, Sr. Having died en route to Arizona from tuberculosis and buried in San Angelo, Texas, are the two finest men I have ever had the privilege of knowing. They were my half uncles, you see and I was living with Parker, Jr. and next door to Charles Harold Brasfield when Parker died of a heart attack and was home from basic training just a year later when, (1968) Charles died from a heart attack also. The two boys had a truly tough life and if you would like to know more, I can provide almost all you want to know. Neither man had offspring, I guess I was the closest thing Parker, Jr. had for a son and Charles never had any children either. Parker, Jr. married Ann Lay and had a long and happy, loving marriage. He took care of his mother and half-sisters and brother's to the very end. A finer man I have never met. I would like to correspond more if you don't mind; you see I am searching for my biological father and his family. Please email me back as this is some of the most wonderful news I've had in years. Sincerely yours, Richard (Rick Millar)

    Michael,
I have communicated with you previously regarding the wife of Parker Brasfield Sr., Faustina Verlett McBroom (my grandmother) I noticed that the children of Parker and Faustina are not listed or listed as name withheld, I have the information and if it IS "name withheld" I was wondering why.Anyway thei names are as follows:

    1. Parker Benton Brasfield, Jr. Born 1918 died oct, 1967 (I can get better dates for you if you want, I'm on the North Slope of Alaska right at the Moent)

    2. Charles Harold Brasfield Born approx. 1920 died approx Oct, 1969
Neither men had offspring so that line effectively stopped there. I was living with Parker and his wife, Anne Lay Brasfield and next door to Charles, his brother when Parker died of a heart attack. I was 18 years old and both of these men were very special to me. I hope this helps and I CAN get the rest of the information if you wanjt it including the census info on Parker Sr.'s family. Also, there is another branch of the Brassfield family that had no knowledge of you folks untils last December. They are from Oklahoma, but Greg Brassfield is living in the Dalls area and is a Temple ordinance worker at the Dalls, Texas Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I hope this is useful in finding more family members. I am: Richard Millar of Wasilla, Alaska my preferred email is rhmillar@gci.net. I am truly looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Rick Millar

Do you have the names of the 8 children? My g-grand mother's name was Nancy Melvina Ward (or middle name is possibly Melvinee) and I know she had a brother named John. She first married a man by the name of John McCullough and later married John Raspberry Adcock.

    Notes:

John Andrew Phillips would have been my great-great grandfather, through my grandfather (Jasper Lee Brasfield), his mother (Rebecca Phillips), and her father (John Andrew Phillips).

The location of birth for John Andrew Phillips seems to vary depending on source from Tennessee, to Alabama, to Virginia. He was listed in the 1830 Federal Census (see below) as living in Lincoln County, Tennessee. In the 1900 Federal Census of McNairy County (TN), my grandfather (Jasper Lee Brasfield) has his mother (Rebecca J. Phillips Brasfield) living in the household. Whoever provided the census taker with information, listed Rebecca's father (John Andrew Phillips) as having been born in Tennessee.

John Andrew Phillips' father was supposed to been named Nicholas Phillips. There are only 9 Nicholas Phillips listed in the 1820 Federal Census. There were 2 from Kentucky, 3 from New York, 1 in Ohio, 1 in Connecticut, 1 in Rhode Island, and 1 in Maine. Interestingly enough, none in Virginia when our John Andrew Phillips would have been 14 years old and presumably living with his father. In the 1810 Federal Census when John Andrew Phillips would have been only 4 years old, there were only 2 Nicholas Phillips in the Census - 1 in New York and 1 in Connecticut, and again none in Virginia. A lot of this is obviously hampered by the change in state and territorial boundaries. I have not yet tried to compare those boundaries with the relevant dates. I'm open to any additional information to clarify his birthplace.

1880 Federal Census from District 16, Hardin County (TN)
John - age 73 - ALABAMA (Lists both of his parents as being from Alabama)
    Elizabeth - age 70 - ALABAMA
    Allen - age 27 - Tennessee
Thomas (grandson) age 17 - Tennessee
    Franklin (grandson) - age 15 - Tennessee
    Bryant (grandson) - age 9 - Tennessee

1870 Federal Census from District 11, Hardin County (TN)
    John - age 62 - VIRGINIA - Farmer
    Elizabeth - age 60 - Tennessee
    Allen - age 19 - Tennessee
John (grandson)- age 8 - Tennessee
    Franklin (grandson) - age 6 - Tennessee

1860 Federal Census from District 11, Hardin County (TN).
    John - age 52 - VIRGINIA - Farmer
Elizabeth (Mary Elizabeth) - age 50 - Tennessee
    Rebecca J.M. - age 25 Tennessee
    Elija M. - age 22 - Tennessee
    Mary - age 19 - Tennessee
    Sophia E. - age 17 - Tennessee
    Sarah A. - age 14 - Tennessee
    John W. - age 11 - Tennessee
    Richard A. - age 9 - Tennessee

1850 Federal Census from District 12, McNairy County (TN).
    John - age 42 - KENTUCKY - Farmer
Elizabeth (Mary Elizabeth) - age 41 - Tennessee
    Nicholas - age 18 - Tennessee - Farmer
Jane (Rebecca Jane) - age 15 - Tennessee
    Elijah - age 12 - Tennessee
    Mary - age 11 - Tennessee
    Sophia - age 7 - Tennessee
    Sarah (Sallie A.) - age 4 - Tennessee
    Allen - age 2 - Tennessee

1840 Federal Census from McNairy County (TN) - no district is given and the 1840 Census does not list place of birth, and family members are not named.
John Phillips - 6 family members (4 male and 2 female)

1830 Federal Census from Lincoln County (TN) - no district is given and the 1830 Census does not list place of birth, and family members are not named.
    John (H or A) Phillips - 4 family members (3 male and 1 female)

    Brenda -

Thank you for writing. I have not yet attempted to research Nicholas Phillips. My connection (interest) to him is through his granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Phillips, who married my great grandfather, James Alsey Brasfield. That would make Nicholas my great-great-great grandfather, and I have just not gotten into his roots yet.

What you have found is certainly plausible and/or likely, but I am afraid that I do not have anything to assist you at this time. If anything should develop, I will let you know.

    Subject: Phillips research

    Michael,
Where did your Nicholas Phillips live when the 1810 census was taken? The following is what data I have gathered. I hope it will explain my question.

I am trying to find the parents of George N. Phillips born abt 1812 in KY. Like your John Andrew Phillips, he also lived in McNairy TN in 1850 and Hardin County in 1860 through 1880. He is on the same page of the 1850 census as your John Andrew. Wife is Elizabeth, oldest child is Nicholas. Due to locations lived in by both, and the common use of given names, I believe there is a good chance that your John Andrew and George N. Phillips were brothers.

Assuming you are correct about the first name of John's father, I did a search for Nicholas in the earlier censuses. I have found a Nicholas Phillips in Mercer Co., KY who I believe is George's father. From all the census data I have on him, he was born about 1785, but I have found no evidence as to where he was born.

Nicholas is in Mercer Co., KY in 1810 and 1820. Then in 1830 Nicholas is in McNairy Co., TN, page 118, along with John Phillips, page 122, and Joseph Phillips on page 119. I'm not sure, but Joseph may be a brother of Nicholas, and not a son. They are both 40-50 years old in 1830. However, Nicholas did have two sons under age 10 in 1810. So one could be your John, but who is the other?

Then in 1840 John ( 30-40) and George (20-30) are still in McNairy county, but Nicholas is not listed. I believe he died before then.

One more thing; in 1850 John Phillips reported that he was born in KY, not TN. If he was born in KY, then it is possible for him to be George's brother and the son of Nicholas of Mercer Co., KY.

So what do you think; have I hit paydirt, or do you think I'm way off base? By the way, this is not my family, but that of a dear friend. Hope to hear from you soon!

    Brenda
