    Notes for Mary Elizabeth "Candy" Standridge: Mary E. "Candy" was in a accident riding in the back of a truck, she was thrown from the truck and was killed. Carl Ward was driving the truck and Lorene was in the the cab, It has been said that a train hit the truck the accident happened near Mena ,Polk County, Akarnsas. It has been said that Candy was married to Monroe Standridge 1st. cousin, but she was married to William A. Standridge who was her first cousin. They had two children and divorced, and both remarried Information is from Sue Cole , granddaughter of Rhoda William and Candy's daughter. Information found in Newton County, AR , Marriage Book B, page 24, 1879 - 1887, B-214 30 Aug. 1885 Standidge, W. A. 18, to Standridge, M. E. 16 by J. G. Mohndro. Fox. book C page 272. *************************************************************************** Obit from News Paper Mrs Candy fox, 65, Injured Friday Afternoon, Died Early Sunday ---Widow of Confederate Veteran Mrs Candy Fox, aged 65, who was injured in a motor accident Friday afternoon at Seventh street and Janssen avenue, was more badly hurt than first believed, and died about 5 o'clock Sunday morning. Death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs Carl Ward, on South Eleventh Street, where the injured woman had been taken following the accident. Internal injuries, not discernable at first, are believed to have caused the aged woman's death. Mrs Fox had been in poor health prior to the fatal crash of cars, and her condition undoutedly helped hasten her death. The remains were taken to the Beasley Funeral Home and prepared for burial, which took place Monday afternoon at Rocky Cemetery, after funeral services had been held at the chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Melvin Carter of the Pentecostal Churc officiated. Mrs Fox was the widow of Gatus Fox, a confederate veteran, and was in route home from the courthouse where she had filled out a pensioner's questionnaire, at the time the car in which she was riding. was struck by one driven by Ed Connell. Decedent had been a resident of Polk county for about 20 years. The family formerly lived near Rocky. Mrs Fox is survived by three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Ward being the only surviving child living in Mena. the other daughter, Mrs Alice Hines, lives at Dallas, Texas. The sons are Jess Fox of Dallas, Esau Fox of Millerton, Ok. and Gatus Fox of Eagletown, Ok. small section on the other side: Mrs Alice Hines and her brother Jess fox, came from Dallas, Tex. to attend the funeral of their mother Mrs Candy Fox. They were joined in Mena by two brothers, Esau Fox of Millerton, Ok. and Gatus Fox from Eagletown, Ok., who reached Mena Sunday night. (Children from 1st marriage were not listed in this obit they were Willis A. Standridge and Rhoda Jane Standridge Carter) Obit was sent to me by Sue Cole granddaughter of Rhoda.
