Posted: Friday, Nov 12th, 2010 - Monte Vista Colorado Journal

LAKEWOOD-Longtime Alamosa resident Lois June Eickhoff, 75, died of cancer Nov. 1, 2010 at the Hospice of St. John in Lakewood. Her granddaughter, Erin, was by her side. She was born Aug. 3, 1935 in Burnstown Township, Brown County, Minn., to Adolph G. and Gladys Parker Steinhaus. An avid gardener, Lois loved all plants and flowers and her house and yard was always filled with lush and blooming foliage. She loved to read and enjoyed being outside in the company of her family and friends. She looked at life with deep reverence, but preferred to bring her sense of humor to the forefront of any topic, and never missed an opportunity to have a good laugh. She was an incredibly strong woman and her spirit will not be forgotten by any of those who knew her. Her hobbies were reading, gardening, baking and playing games.

Her second husband Harold “Ike” Eickhoff and both of her parents precede her in death. She and Ike especially loved their vacations in Mexico. Interment of Lois and Ike will be in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, next year. Her closest friends and family will be invited to attend.

Survivors include her children, Rick (Rozann) Needham of Alamosa and Leigh Ann (Michael) Jones of Kirkwood, Mo.; her siblings, Jean Schuller (Delbert) of Willmar, Minn. and Norma (Donny) Watson of Blomkist, Minn.; her grandchildren, Erin Needham of Boulder, Jason (Lauren) Gentile of Hillsboro, Mo., Shayne Jones (Grace Marie) of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, Cathryn Vasquez and Jonathon and Christopher Needham of Alamosa; her great-grandchildren: Marcus and Brennon Maes and numerous nieces and nephews survive her. She also leaves many great friends whom she dearly appreciated, especially Al and Corrine Olson, Kathy Hedglin and her daughter Stepanie, Veronica Vasquez, the staff at Southern Peaks Library and so many others. A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Alamosa. Arrangements are by Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa.
