Jay L. Brassfield, 71, Rich Hill, MO, formerly of Johnson County, KS, passed away Aug. 15, 2010. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m., at the Rich Hill United Methodist Church, with burial in the Shawnee Mission Memory Garden Cemetery, Shawnee, KS. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m., at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, MO. Memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church, Kern Senior Center, Grace Hospice in c/o Heuser F.H., Box 42, Rich Hill, MO 64779. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Brassfield; three daughters: Kim Jamison, Laura Pundt, and Amy Brooks; one son, Carl Brassfield; 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and 1 sister, Donna Bratton. Jay Lee (Pat) Brassfield, 71, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Butler, Mo. He was born March 17, 1939, in Edgerton, Kan., to Wayne Edward and Cledia May Gerlach. He graduated from Edgerton Rural High School in 1957, then attended Baker University. Jay was united in marriage to Phyllis Jamison on Oct. 20, 1973. They resided in Olathe before moving to Rich Hill, Mo., in 1987. He was employed as a pipefitter with Local 533 for 31 years. He retired in 2000. Jay was a lifelong member of the Rich Hill United Methodist Church. He served as a trustee of the Rich Hill Church. He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 36 years; four children: Kim Jamison of Rich Hill, Mo., Laura Pundt (Tim) of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Amy Brooks (Randy) of Nevada, Mo., and Carl Brassfield of Rich Hill; six grandchildren: Samantha Schmitt, Tayrin Schmitt, Kodie Schmitt, Emma Pundt, Greg Pundt and Isabella Brooks; and one great-grandchild, Heath Hubbard. He also is survived by a sister, Donna Bratton of Edgerton. Visitation and Masonic services will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Rich Hill United Methodist Church with burial at 2 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, 23215 W. 75th St. in Shawnee.
