  My grandfather, Major, was brother of Rufus and had two sons, Harold and John. (Not listed on RootsWeb). He was also half Cherokee, but they lived on Chickasaw Lane on the reservation because that's the only place where there was room. There was at one time the leader of the Cherokee nation who refused to live on the reservation called Chief Bowles. He was half Scottish. Red headed Cherokee. They were given most of East Texas where my family settled until the Republic of Texas army after Sam Houston was ousted betrayed and slaughtered them. After that, the survivors hid until it passed over then came back years later and just said they were white. It's a long story and I'm rambling but suffice it to say, yes there is a Cherokee connection. I can't believe I don't know the Paul in Palestine.
