Mike,
On everything I've come across having to do with the Browns, the spelling has always been Brassfield.
1880 Census, Boise City, Ada County, Idaho Territory
35 Brassfield, Corrilla J. 33 IA ME OH
Lillie 12 IA MO IA
Frank M. 10 IA MO IA
Jared A. 8 KS MO IA
Alice 5 KS MO IA
Walter 4/12 ID MO IA
Ada County Mortality Census for Year Ending May 31, 1880
35 Brassfield, Tolman, age 39, male, white, married, born in Missouri, father born in
Tennessee, mother born in Virginia, farmer, died in August from Brites disease,
resided in the county 5 months, contacted the disease in 1861 while serving in the
Army, Dr. E. H. Sanders
35 Brassfield, Emma, age 2, female, white, born in Idaho, father born in Missouri,
mother born in Iowa, died in December from typhoid pneumonia
35 Tallman, Emily, age 57, female, white, widow, born in Ohio, father born in Maine,
mother born in Massachusetts, died in February from typhoid pneumonia, con-
tacted the disease in Oregon
On 18 Oct 1899 in Keosauqua, Van Buren county, Iowa, Jared A. Brassfield marrried Lucy Brown. On 1900 Census, Village Twp, Van Buren county, Iowa, Jared and Lucy are listed with Lloyd Brown and family. Also listed are Lewis LeRoy and Charles E. Brassfield, ages 15 and 13 (possibly from a previous Jared marriage?)
In 1916 obituary in Idaho Daily Statesman, Boise, ID: John Ancel Brassfield, 12 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Brassfield, died at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Orlando Robbins, on Friday, 28 July 1916
Jared apparently went by Judd: Shoshone Journal, Shoshone, Idaho, 6 Nov 1899: Judd Brassfield and Miss Lucy Brown were united in the Holy bonds of Matrimony, at Leander, Iowa last week.
Never did run across his middle name; only initial A.
Hope this will be of some help to you. Floyd
