- Earl Harvey Brasfield Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.
A native of Okolona, Miss., Mr. Brasfield had lived in Vicksburg most of his life. He was a veteran of the Navy, Army and Mississippi National Guard, having served in World War II and Korea. He retired as a command sergeant major after 35 years of service.
Mr. Brasfield was a civil engineer for the Mississippi River Commission with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and Hawkins United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Leroy and Edna Estelle Carson Brasfield; a daughter, Marian Gail Brasfield; three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Findley Brasfield of Vicksburg; two sons, Buster Brasfield of Newport Richey, Fla., and Randy Brasfield of Vicksburg; three daughters, Beverly Roggencamp of Kansas City, Mo., Sharon Francingues of Vicksburg and Linda Randall of Slidell, La.; two brothers, Charles Brasfield of Vicksburg and Edgar Brasfield of Brandon; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Plett, Newell Murphy Jr., Paul Miller, Clyde Scott, Bob Walters and Bob Townley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Holman, Oren Bailess, Bob Athow, George Nasif Jr., the Becomers Sunday School Class and 31st Dixie Division.
