- Tuesday, January 27th, 2004 - BRASFIELD, RUTH BOWLIN - Ruth Bowlin Brasfield, residing in Briarcliff Manor, passed away at home on January 22, 2004 after a short illness. Born, Ruth Ann Bowlin, on July 12, 1919 in Toledo, Ohio, growing up in Dresden, Tennessee, where she married her childhood sweetheart, Richard, in 1942. Ruth and Richard came to NY area in the 1950's. She was a long term resident of Pelham Manor for 22 years, before moving to Eastchester in 1983. Her husband, Dr. Richard Brasfield, passed away in 1970. She obtained a B.A degree in Home Economics from Murray State University, and her Masters Degree in Education from the College of New Rochelle in 1973. Ruth was an active member and past president of the Pelham PTA prior to becoming a home economics teacher at Pelham Memorial High School in 1970, where she taught for over 20 years. An active member of the Scarsdale Congregational Church Women's Guild while living in Eastchester until she moved to Briarcliff Manor in 2000. She is survived by her children Pam Purcell of Somers, NY and Richard Brasfield of Westport Conneticut, and fourt grandchildren: Erin and Lauren Purcell, Emily and Jennifer Brasfield. She will be remembered for her remarkable ability to teach boys (and girls) how to cook and sew T-shirts, her sense of southern hospitality and elegance, her willingness to go out of her way to show care and concern for those around her, her dedication and devotion to her grandchildren, and for always being a true "lady" in every sense of the word. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 31st at 3:00 pm at the Scarsdale Congregational Church on Heathcote Rd in Scarsdale
