Ira Brasfield, 84, of Gibson died July 24, 2008, at Humboldt General Hospital. His wife, the former Maggie Lou Carpenter, was a former resident of this area and he had several relatives in Obion County. Services were 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Gibson Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mike Rhodes and Gib Tucker officiating. Graveside services followed at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Obion County Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be made to Gibson Baptist Church, Gibson TN 38338. Bodkin Funeral Home in Humboldt was in charge of arrangements. He was born June 2, 1924, in Crockett County, son of the late Ira Orbin and Lula Pearl (Peal) Brasfield. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a retired teacher. He had lived in Gibson for 49 years and was a member of Gibson Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon, church secretary and treasurer, a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and song leader. He was also a former member of Gibson Lions Club. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne Franklin and Melissa Brasfield of Humboldt and Steven and Lynn Brasfield of Milan; his daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Lynn Tharp of Nashville; his brother, Cornelious Brasfield of Jackson; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Henry and Brenda Carpenter of Springfield, Donald and Katrina Dugger of Troy, Frankie France of Union City and Mary Ann and Tommy Carpenter of Rives.
