- Alice I. Brassfield Smith RAPID CITY - Alice I. Brassfield Smith, 83, of Rapid City, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at a local nursing home. Alice was born Aug. 29, 1916, at Owanka to Edward A. and Rena (Castle) Brassfield. Alice married Alvin L. Smith on Sept. 25, 1947, at Lakeside. Alice and Alvin traveled extensively, including to Alaska, Europe and Australia, where she taught school. She is survived by four brothers, Charles Brassfield and his wife, Gladys, New Underwood; Walter Brassfield and his wife, Evelyn, Ralph Brassfield and his wife, Evelyn, and Donald Brassfield and his wife, Darlene, all of Rapid City, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, three brothers, Art, Tom and Lyle, and a sister, Amber. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Rooks & Kirk Chapel of Light, and one hour before services at the church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at First Christian Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Dale Bartscher officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
