- Ronnie Allen Standridge, 65, passed away May 16, 2010, at his home in Big Lake due to a long battle with heart problems. A memorial service will be held May 30 at 6 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mile 67.5 (Downing Street) Parks Highway in Willow. Bishop Leland Fishback will officiate. There will be a wake for him around his birth date for his Society for Creative Anachronism family. Ronnie was born July 8, 1944, in San Fernando, Calif., to Eula Pauline (Cutler) Standridge and Alfonso Ponnie Standridge . He graduated from high school in Wilberton, Okla.
In 1986, Ronnie moved to Alaska, living in Eagle River in 1986, Wasilla from 1987-1994, Caswell Lakes/Hidden Hills in Willow from 1994-2001 and then moved to Big Lake in 2001 until his passing.
Ron was a "Jack of all trades," with many jobs ranging from Boeing airplane maintenance, life insurance sales and concrete construction work, even a hauling business, but his primary love and business were his jewelry creation business and store The Gold Poke in Wasilla until 1990. In 1997, Ron retired with disability.
He was an avid member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ron was a Master of the Laurel, which is a teacher in The Society for Creative Anachronism, and very proud of it.
Ronnie was a Medieval re-enactment member, he also loving hunting and fishing as long as his health allowed. Cooking and barbecuing were his passion.
"Ron was known for his wit and humor by all that knew him. His faith in his Savior Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father always gave him the strength and courage to overcome every hurdle put in his way. Ron's love for his wife, children and grandchildren was unequaled and more important than anything in this world. Ron lived to bring joy to all that he met. He was his wife Terry's true knight and shining armor. His children's example of loving nature all around them and his friends' inspiration of life courage," his family wrote.
Ronnie was survived by his wife, Rolinda "Terry" Standridge of Big Lake; son, Ronnie Allen Standridge Jr., of Norwalk, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Cecile Amy Standridge of Norwalk.; daughter, Dawn Elaine Segawa of Costa Mesa, Calif.; son-in-law, Matthew K. Segawa of Costa Mesa.; daughter, Alisa Marie Fries of Big Lake; son, Jody Wayne Johnson of Wasilla; granddaughter, Catherine Charlane Standridge of Norwalk; granddaughter, Michelle Amy Standridge of Norwalk; grandson, Richard Owen Standridge of Norwalk; grandson, Theodore Winston Segawa of Costa Mesa; grandson, Barak Hunter Fries of Big Lake; granddaughter, Anna-Theresa Jessica Fries of Big Lake; grandson, Bryce Ryan Fries of Big Lake; granddaughter, Terri Janice Johnson of Houston, Texas; grandson, Daemon Sky Brown of Houston, Texas; and cousins, the Cutler family of Wasilla.
Ronnie is preceded in death by a sister Cora Lee and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Olivia Wolford in February 2010.
His ashes will be scattered at his home and on Montague Island in Prince William Sound.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
