Floyd Wesley Brassfield, 76, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 surrounded by family and friends at his home in Canyon Lake, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Floyie Dell Burkett; parents Floyd and Cathryn Florine Brassfield; and two brothers, Charles, and Bobby Brassfield. He is survived by his brothers, Earl and Don Brassfield of Weatherford, Texas; his aunt, Jessie Faye Brady and husband Vern of Canyon Lake, Texas; his uncle, Dennis Walker of Marshall, Texas; his son, Wesley Dale Brassfield and wife, Delphia of Inola, Oklahoma; his daughter, Valerie Joyce (Brassfield) Hathaway and husband, John of Dillon, Montana; his son, Stephen Gary Brassfield and wife, Mary of Schertz, Texas; his 9 grandchildren, Robert, Josh, Brandi, Jennifer Alicia, Jennifer Rae, Mackenzie, Katelyn, Stephen, and Connor; his 5 great-grandchildren, Myles, Tenley, Tymbr, Joshua, and Parker; and dear friend and companion, Betty Ellen Day. Born and raised in Decatur, Texas, he and his wife retired to Canyon Lake, Texas in 1970. After retiring, he had the opportunity to join the Farmers Insurance Group in San Antonio, Texas. He not only took pride in his work, but relished the friendships and bonds he created with his customers during this time. An avid traveler, he and Flo "saw the world through a dirty windshield", visiting friends, family and loved ones in all fifty states. An active member of Cranes Mill Baptist Church, and member of the Masonic Lodge, Floyd Brassfield helped all those who came to him in times of need. He lived by the adage that a man's word is his bond and instilled these values in his children and grandchildren. He is sadly missed by his family and friends but we rejoice in his heavenly reunion. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday and 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at Canyon Lake, Texas. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday September 12, 2009 at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home Chapel at Canyon Lake. Burial with military honors will follow at Cranes Mill Cemetery.
