From information in her father's will, Mary Pritchard Revis was the wife of Jesse Brasfield. Some records refer to her as Mary F. Reavis. Her parents were William -2 Reavis and Mary Pritchard and she was born 1777 in Northampton Co NC.
The Will Abstract of NC Wills 1760-1800 is in 1784 makes the reference.

The "2" after William Reavis' name indicates to us that he is second generation from the named progenitor Edward Reavis. Although Edward's father may have been in MD/VA, we have no proof as yet so to keeo the jillion Williams, Johns and Jameses and Marys straighter we have added generation numbers. We find an age range that way and can sometimes connect a line by computing how many links are missing.

I will send you separately a link to an angelfire site on Reavis family which will have the will in script and possibly transcribed also, I cannot recall, available. The site is a bit jumbled in appearance but this reflects the nascent html capabaility of the owner rather than the quality and breadth of information included. Our Reavis List on rootsweb may have information on Brassfields in the archives because I have worked on them with our main researcher.

William-2 married at least twice as far as we know, once in 1747 to Jamry Jordan; some say this is a mistranscription of Mary but I have not seen the record, so.... They had at least nine children. William married Mary Pritchard (d/o John P.) 1760-64 and they had at least seven children including Mary Pritchard-3 1777 Northampton Co NC. She is referred to as "Mary F." in some cases but specifically as Mary Pritchard Reavis in her father's will.

We have no death date other than 1840 Buena Vista, Monroe Co IN, bur at Combs Cemetery there, and I know her daughter Abigail married a Combs but have not followed that line. We believe Jesse died about 1826 in Surry Co NC and that they had 9 children. Do you have any specifics on where he is buried?

to be consistent with other chn births..1770 makes more
sense, yet they did not marry til 1804..so who knows.

All of the children were born in Northampton co NC, Wm
had purchased land in Wake Co couple yrs prior to his
death in Northampton co., so most of his chn inherited
the land in Wake co and you can trace most of them in
that area.

Note you have Mary born in France, maybe her mother was, I
have no data on her..but for sure Mary m/Brasfield was born
in Northampton co NC.

die in 1840..but in 1860 Monroe Co Ind

She is found on the 1860 census with her son Andrew in Monroe Co
Indiana

Her 1st marriage was to James Henderson Brassfield, and had 4 sons. James Houston Brassfield, b. 4 Oct. 1842, d. 1896 (Mt. Carmel, Wabash Co., Ill.), (2) William Riley Brassfield, b. 5 June 1846, d. 28 July 1920, (3) Perry H. Brassfield, b.c. 1847 (Ill. or Ind.), listed in a home for the retarded in the 1880 census. Also Aaron Brassfield. Further information on him has not been obtained as yet, although we have a picture of him. Edgar Brassfield, who I believe was a son of William Riley Brassfield, was born 1891, Black Rock , AK.

The Metropolitan Church Association, an offshoot of the Methodist Church in the northern states, established itself as a haven for those who felt their church was becoming too formal. Its headquarters was in Waukesha, Wisconsin. It was also referred to as the Society of the Burning Bush. Having established communal colonies in Virginia, West Virginia and Louisiana, plans were made in 1912 to create a colony in Texas. In that year, 1,520 fertile acres were acquired near the town of Bullard. The land was ideal for agriculture that developed into the main source of income for the colony. The colony, however, was never self-supporting and created a financial drain on the Association. To meet its financial obligations, the land was sold in 1919 and the colony's residents dispersed. Today, none of the original buildings remain and the pecan orchard directly across the street from the present-day Bullard High School primarily marks the site of the former town. 1840/41, MD Census of Marshall County 1870/1880 enumerated her
birthplace as MD, later census of their children had PA.(she believes
this is a result as being known as PA Dutch)

1933 Willard Wallace DEAL , Homer Beckworth Deal, and Asa Roy Deal
prepared a supplement to the 1930 book "Genealogy of Elias Henry Diehl,
1848" which was pub in 1915 with addendum in 1930. The 1933 edition
covered decendants of Conrad DIEHL/DEAL 1763-1933 in NY State. (She is
wanting a look-up from this book if anyone has it)

BRASSFIELD, MAHLON D.; Farmer; born in Park County, Indiana, April 7, 1834; is the son of Michael Brassfield, born in North Carolina December 12, 1810, and died February 5, 1857, and Ruth F. (Freeman) Brassfield, born in North Carolina December 6, 1813, and died February 1, 1900. His grandmother was Mary F. Brassfield, a native of France. Michael Brassfield moved to Indiana when the country was new and there married. He was a farmer, and in 1840 brought his family to Illinois and settled in Radnor Township. Mr. M. D. Brassfield was married to Mary A. Jessup in Richwoods Township, January 1,1862. Three children were born to them: John S., born December 27, 1862, married Ida E. Harrison; George M., born September 15, 1865, married Minnie A. Adkinson and Clara E., born June 16, 1874. Mrs. Brassfield was born in Huron County, Ohio, March 15, 1838, the daughter of John K. Jessup, who was born in New Jersey in 1807 and died in 1886, and Lucy M. (Thomas) Jessup, born in New York in 1814 and died in 1886. They came to Ohio in 1837, removed to Michigan in the fall of 1838, and to Peoria County in 1848, when they settled on a farm. Gideon Thomas. Mrs. Brassfield's maternal grandfather, was of Welsh descent; he came to Illinois in 1836 and settled in Kickapoo Township, where he died in 1851. His wife, Fanny, died April 14, 1861. Mr. Brassfield is a prosperous farmer and owns one hundred and seventy acres of land in Radnor and one hundred and twenty in Akron Township. He is a Democrat, has been School Director and served several terms as Road Commissioner. He is a member of the Methodist Church.

Together they had a daughter Rose who died in infancy and a son James J. Ella and James were later divorced. Ella is buried beside her parents.

Albert Lewis Brassfield (9/11/1878 - 4/1968) is possibly the "Pappy Brassfield" reputed to be the father of Hildred Marie Stoltz as the result of an illicit relationship with Hildred's mother, Xenia Ohio Strong (7/1/1890 - 4/30/1931) prior to her marriage to Jesse Clyde Stoltz. The 1900 population of Mt. Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois was 12,583 - the 1910 population was 14,913. A possible Brasfield or Brassfield of the correct age living in Mount Carmel to possibly have fathered Hildred Marie Stoltz was Albert Lewis Brassfield. He is listed as a "prisoner" in the 1900 census and a "fisherman" in the 1910 census. He would have been 31 years old at the time of Hildred's birth on June 30, 1909. The individual known as "Pappy" is said to be buried at the Sand Hill Cemetery in Mount Carmel, Illinois.

May 19, 1912 email - Mr. Brasfield. I am Hildred Stoltz's Grandson. I was wondering how she was in your family tree? I have heard long time "family rumors" that her real father was a man known only to me as "Pappy" Brasfield, but due to the times she and GGranmother Xenis Strong would not live up to it. July 24, 2009 - Comments: There was family talk after my Grandmother Hildred Garrett dies a few years back that she had been adopted. I search in Olney, Illinois and found that she had been adopted. Her mother's name was Xenia Ohio Strong. Hildred's first birth certificate stated father unknown. It was to my understanding from family lore that her real father was an American Indian that went by the name of "Pappy" Brassfield. Do have any knowledge of this person. I also believe "Pappy" Brassfiled is buried in Sand Hill Cemetary in Mt. Carmel. Any information would be appreicated.

Frank B. Brassfield (1898-1987) was born October 21, 1898 in Indiana to Sylvine (Davis) (1862-1903?) and Preston Brassfield (1850-1911). According to the Waukesha Freeman article, Frank grew up in the Metropolitan Church association (MCA) orphanage in Waukesha, Wisconsin with three sisters Alice, Gail and Elsie following his mother's death around 1903. (Alice appears to have been a half-sister, having a different mother than Frank) The MCA was apparently pacifist and some used membership in that church to avoid being drafted into World War I.(1) The MCA apparently had ties to the Free Methodist Church. Despite this upbringing, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After the US entered World War I, Brassfield was a Bugler for part of his service in France. According to the Freeman, he became bored with the job and worked on machine guns instead.

Frank was awarded two Silver Star medals during World War I for valor in combat while serving in the Marines 6th Regiment. The Silver Star is the third highest medal in the US Military awarded for valor, behind the Navy Cross and the Medal of Honor. At the time, the Silver Star was a newly created award.

On October 9, 1918, Brassfield was fighting in the Champagne sector in the Battle of Blanc Mont. For his bravery under fire during the battle, he was awarded the Silver Star. According to the citation, he was "bringing up machine gun ammunition through the enemy barrage."
The Waukesha Freeman article from February 1919 says that France also awarded him the Croix de Guerre (Cross of War) medal. The article describes his actions as

"Although exhausted, he volunteered to carry ammunition from the front line to an advanced post under violent artillery fire, thus permitting the machine gun to continue its action."
In a letter to his sister, reprinted in the Freeman article Brassfield says that it was awarded for action at Chateau Thierry which was in July 1918. However the citation is nearly identical to the Silver Star citation from Blanc Mont and the Clark book says he received a "SS CdG-P" at Blanc Mont. SS for Silver Star and CdG-P for Croix de Guerre. Whatever the case, he certainly served heroically under fire. According to the Freeman, the legendary Marine Major General John A. Lejeune personally pinned the Croix de Guerre on Brassfield during a ceremony in November 1918.

According to Decorated marines of the Fourth Brigade in World War I by George B. Clark p 123, Brassfield also received a Silver Star for actions in the Battle of Belleau Wood in June 1918. I have not been able to locate a citation for that Silver Star medal.

I'm not too clear on any of the details beyond that, but it appears that he died in January 1987. According to the Social Security death index, he last resided in Staunton, Macoupin County, Illinois not far from St. Louis, Missouri.
