Virginia Barkley Baker ,(78) of Houston, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in her home surrounded by family. Virginia was born on Saturday, October 15, 1932 in Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents Truman Paul Barkley and Frances Fry Barkley. She is survived by her former husband and best friend Roy L. Elledge, Jr., her brother Calvin Andrew Barkley of Bryan, Texas and her sister Betty Barkley Rolke of Franklin, Texas. Her three children Howard Barkley Wedemeyer, Brett Donovan Baker and Brenda Baker Short all of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren Allison Wedemeyer Offterdinger and husband Bobby of Bethesda, Maryland, Howard Barkley Wedemeyer, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brett Donovan Baker, Jr. and Brittany Marie Baker of Kingwood, Texas, Hayley Frances Short and Travis Carl Short of Houston, Texas. Nieces and nephews Paul Rolke, Lisa Rolke, Calvin Barkley, Jr. and Fran Dieterich and many other friends and relatives.
Virginia is a graduate of Lamar High School and University of Texas Austin. A devoted member of St. Martins Episcopal Church and enjoyed her volunteer work with The Gathering of St Martins and The Guild Shop of St. John.
Following a private family interment, Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, January 21, 2011 at St. Martins Episcopal Church 717 Sage Road Houston, Texas with a reception immediately following in Bagby Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions be made to The Gathering of St Martins Episcopal Church.
