A 49-year-old Pauline man was killed in a wreck early Saturday in Woodruff.

Investigator Dwayne Corn of the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office said in a statement that John Chase Brasfield, of 1013 Harrelson Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth said Brasfield was driving south on Waddell Road in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck, drove through the intersection of Greenpond Road and went off the left side and overcorrected. After that, Brasfield drove off the right side of the road and collided with trees, Edgeworth said. A neighbor heard the accident at 2:20 a.m. Saturday. Brasfield was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated, Edgeworth said. Brasfield was not wearing a seat belt and suffered several injuries, Edgeworth said. Corn said Brasfield died from internal head and body trauma. He was pronounced dead at 3:34 a.m. No autopsy is planned.
