She married David Adams in 1799 in Hancock Co. GA, according to the familysearch.org's IGI record #2034692. My maternal ggg grandparents were David F. Adams and Elizabeth last name unknown. They married ca. 1800. She was born in SC and he in KY, according to the Covington Co. AL 1850 Census. Does anyone have a list of the Heads of Households for the 1800 Hancock Co. GA Census? JETER, stock raiser, farmer, and a prominent citizen of Weakley County, Tenn., was born in North Carolina, January 12,1831, son of Samuel and Ann (Brasfield) Jeter, natives of North Carolina, born in 1801 and 1797, and died in 1835 and 1853, respectively. The father was a farmer, and when about twenty years of age was united in marriage to Ann Brasfield, by whom he had eight children, two of whom are living: Robert E. and our subject. They came to Tennessee in 1831. John W. was reared by his mother. He was educated in the neighboring schools and at Dresden, and the year he was twenty-one years old, taught school, and on the 3d of March, 1853, his marriage with Dr. G. D. and Mrs. Simm's daughter Ann, was celebrated. Of the five children born to them there are living William S., Frances Ella (Mrs. S. E. Young), and Ann C (Mrs. Henry Finch). Almost from the date of his marriage, Mr. Jeter has resided on his present farm, which originally consisted of 100 acres, but now amounts to 628 acres of well cultivated and improved land. Mr. Jeter is a Democrat, and in 1870 was elected to the office of magistrate, which he filled six years. He has been a member of the Masonic eternity since he was twenty-one years of age. In May, 1863, his wife died, and in December of the same year he wedded Sarah E. Young, by whom he is the father of six children: Lorissa T. (Mrs. Samuel Shannon), George W., John B., Robert Lee, Lulu and Ethelbert J. Mrs. Jeter was born in Granville County, N. C., in 1837, and her parents, William K. and Lucy F. Young, were both born in North Carolina. The father died in 1855, and the mother is now residing in Weakley County.

    George R. Brasfield (deceased), was born in Granville County, N. C., February 19, 1823; son of Caleb and Kate (Jeter) Brasfield. About 1833 Caleb Brasfield came to Weakley County, Tenn., and located in the southern part of the county. He also followed merchandising, in Dresden, a few years. George R. was educated in the common schools of Weakley County, and in October, 1868, married Miss Sallie E. Moore, who was born in Obion County, Tenn., and daughter of James and Jane Moore. Her father died when she vas quite small, and after his death her mother moved to Rutherford County, where she died soon after. To Mr. and Mrs. Brasfield were born four children: George M., Maggie, Jodie and John C. In 1869 Mr. Brasfield bought 217 acres of land near Dresden, and in 1870 erected a fine brick dwelling-house, but was not permitted to enjoy his home long. He died in 1881. He commenced life without fortune or family influence ,but secured and maintained a high social position and a comfortable competency. His whole career has been worthy the admiration of all, and his memory will be held in affectionate remembrance. He was a Mason.

    George R. BRASFIELD died at his residence near this place on the morning of the 7th inst. He was born in Granville county, North Carolina, the 19th of February 1823. His father, Caleb BRASFIELD, settled in Weakley County more than fifty years ago, the deceased then being but a child. During the last thirty -five years, Geo. Brasfield has resided in Dresden and vicinity; this immediate neighborhood having been the sole theatre of his useful, active and energetic life, since before he had reached the years of manhood.

    The large assembly of friends, aquaintences, and mourning kindred who attended his funeral attested alike, the general high esteem in which he was he, and the wide-spread sympathy felt for his disconsolate family and children; yet, none but those who knew him intimately and well, are familiar with the rare and excellent qualities which gave marked individuality to the man, and assured his extraordinary success during a long and active business career. Commencing life without fortune, family influence, or eduational advantages, he secured and maintained the highest social success in the accumulation of fortune, which is the result only of great energy, patience,sound judgement and honorable conduct. His whole career was an exemplification of the trite maxim that, “whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well”. He believed that every man was created fit for some useful purpose, and that success depended on industry, economy, and will. He was ever among the foremost in whatever required a display of public spirit; he never faltered in faithfulness or constancy to his friends , or withheld from those he loved the slightest gratification which the hand of a husband, a father, or a friend could bestow. Indeed, his social and domestic virtues were marked features of his life, hence until the failure of his health many years ago, he was an unrivaled social and political power. There is not an old Whig in this county, who can ever forget the unselfish energy he loyally displayed in upholding its principles and struggling for its triumphs. His career is a monument of encouragement for all young men of pluck and energy and a standing rebuke to the lazy drones who lament their humble birth and poor opportunities. If Goerge R. Allen Coke Brasfield was deputy sheriff of Weakley Co on 4 Sept 1854 according to Deed Book M, p. 127. He was constable, 1859-60, however, was a farmer and teacher by occupation.     J. C. BRASFIELD, grocer, liveryman and farmer, was born in Dresden, Tenn., on the 12th of October, 1863. His father, A. Coke Brasfield, was born in North Carolina in 1820, and was a farmer and trader by occupation. He came to Tennessee in his youth, with his father, Caleb Brasfield, and after his marriage with Ruth A. Bondurant, he located in Dresden. He was constable of the Seventh District for six or seven years, and made an efficient officer. His wife was of German descent, born in Dresden in 1839, and died in 1874. Our subject is the youngest and the only living one of their five children. He attended school at Dresden, and at the age of sixteen, hired out as a clerk in a dry goods and grocery store of J. W. Moran, and remained with him about two years. He then clerked for A. P. White eight or nine months, and afterward worked for R. N. Irvine two months. In 1882 he and Mr. Irvine established a livery and feed stable, and for one year the firm was known as Irvine & Brasfield. In 1883 Mr.V. G. Brasfield bought Mr. Irvine's interest and the most of the time until nearly up to 1885, the firm was Brasfield & Brasfield. Our subject then purchased his grocery store and has been successfully engaged in that business. In August, 1885, he and Dr. B. D. Blakemore established a livery and feed stable and are doing well financially. He owns 685 acres of land and some town property. August 19, 1882, he and Valeria C. Brazelton were united in marriage. They have one child - Allen H. Mrs. Brasfield was born in Dresden, in May, 1866, and is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Brasfield is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote for Grover Cleveland. He belongs to the 1. 0. 0. F.

JETER, stock raiser, farmer, and a prominent citizen of Weakley County, Tenn., was born in North Carolina, January 12,1831, son of Samuel and Ann (Brasfield) Jeter, natives of North Carolina, born in 1801 and 1797, and died in 1835 and 1853, respectively. The father was a farmer, and when about twenty years of age was united in marriage to Ann Brasfield, by whom he had eight children, two of whom are living: Robert E. and our subject. They came to Tennessee in 1831. John W. was reared by his mother. He was educated in the neighboring schools and at Dresden, and the year he was twenty-one years old, taught school, and on the 3d of March, 1853, his marriage with Dr. G. D. and Mrs. Simm's daughter Ann, was celebrated. Of the five children born to them there are living William S., Frances Ella (Mrs. S. E. Young), and Ann C (Mrs. Henry Finch). Almost from the date of his marriage, Mr. Jeter has resided on his present farm, which originally consisted of 100 acres, but now amounts to 628 acres of well cultivated and improved land. Mr. Jeter is a Democrat, and in 1870 was elected to the office of magistrate, which he filled six years. He has been a member of the Masonic eternity since he was twenty-one years of age. In May, 1863, his wife died, and in December of the same year he wedded Sarah E. Young, by whom he is the father of six children: Lorissa T.     Edwin R. Clement most like died in a Confederate military hospital in Jackson, Mississippi rather than Jackson TN. This information is based on the movements of his CSA artillery unit being in Mississippi the dates he goes to hospital. Edwin is my great-grandfather. Concerning the death date of Edwin Ruthin Clement, 1862. That date is the last known date we can document that he was alive. He may have died later. His military unit was garrisoned at Corinth, MS at the time he was sent to the hospital. There were CSA military hospitals at both Jackson, MS and Jackson, TN. However, it seems to me, that if he was in the TN hospital, family could have fetched him home, as they lived in Gibson Co., just one county north.

Clement (deceased) was a son of William and Mary E. (Brassfield) Clement, natives of North Carolina. He was born January 9, 1826, and was the twelfth child and seventh son of seventeen children, of whom Mary (widow of James Leach, residing near Beebe, Ark.) is the only surviving child. A. M. Clement was born in Tennessee, reared and educated in Gibson County, and at the age of twenty-one engaged in business for himself, principally merchandising, near Humboldt. In 1852 he was married to Mary Catherine, daughter of R. N. and Margaret (Froenabager) Patrick, natives of South Carolina and North Carolina, respectively, but at that time living in Gibson County. They were the parents of eleven children, of whom Mary Catherine was the eldest. During the war of the Rebellion Mr. Clement resided near Humboldt, but took no part in the contest. In the spring of 1867 he moved with his family to Crittenden County, Ark., locating on the Mississippi River, near Bradley's Landing, and in 1869 purchased the tract of land on which his widow now resides. He was of English descent, his grandfather (father of William Clement) having [p.410] come from England many years before the revolt of the colonies, settling in North Carolina. From the beginning of the Revolution he and his sons took an active part, he being surgeon and his sons soldiers in the American army. They were in the battle of King's Mountain, one son being killed. At the age of ninety he married a second wife, who was quite young (mother of William Clement) and lived to see a young family growing up around him. Mr. Clement and wife (parents of the subject of our sketch), were active members in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Clement died in 1867, aged eighty-nine, leaving a second wife, his first wife having died many years before. Anthony M. Clement and wife became the parents of eight children, five of whom are now living. They are: Matilda (who is the second time a widow), Josie M., Robert E. Lee and Benjamin C. (the youngest), all at home with their mother. Lillian, the sixth child and fourth daughter, was married September 13, 1888, to S. S. James, of Jericho, this county. Mr. Clement was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in Gibson County, Tenn., and a member of the A. F. & A. M., and at the time of his death was justice of the peace in his township. He was kind-hearted, genial, generous to a fault; though quick to resent an insult, ready to forgive an injury a typical Southern gentleman. He died November 24, 1888, being sixty-two years of age. Mrs. Clement is a good, Christain lady, and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
