    Hi Michael, I was doing some looking for information on Rod Brasfield on the internet and came across your sight. Rod is from my hometown of Smithville, MS. Smithville is a tiny town of near 1000, and is located in NE Mississippi about 35 miles southeast of Tupelo, MS. I'm not sure about this, but I believe Rod was buried at Pearce Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. I went to school with a Renee Brasfield, but never knew any of her family. A guy named Monty Brasfield was several years older than me, and from what I was told, Rod and his brother had a double first cousin who ran Brasfield Hardware store until a number of years ago when he passed away. I wish I could find more about Rod on the internet, as he is obviously our most famous citizen of a very small town. The town had a "Rod Brasfield Festival" for a few years, but dropped it. I guess they could not financially make it work. It included lots of singers, and I believe Minnie Pearl even came one year. Amory is very near and have a very large "Railroad Festival" that is in the top ten of tourist attractions nationally each year. Amory is a city of about 7,000, and they pack near 100,000 in for about four days each year in April. From what I heard, it overshadowed the "Rod Brasfield Festival" so greatly that the decision was made to drop it. I know this doesn't help much, but at least it lets you know that someone out in the electronic land has a great appreciation for one of your relatives.     I worked with the Brasfield family when they were putting on "Toby" comedies in 1934-35 and have wondered what happened to all their family members. I cannot remember his wife's name, but their daughter was Bonnie. I have seen the page on his brother Rod, but never met him although I can remember him talking about Rod. Boob had a photo album and he would show us pictures of the billboards in NY where he had been appearing with some notable actors. Sincerely, TLM

    Michael: No not really. That is why I contacted your site in hopes it would have something on them. I was stage manager in the theatre they played in during the middle 30's I vaguely recalled his wife being Neva, but was not sure. Thayer Roberts was with them and I saw Thayer in New Orleans after WW-II but did not get a chance to talk to him. He was with Sigmond Rhomberg in a musicale " The Desert Song" in N.O. About the only comment I remember him saying was "Too bad what happened to Bonnie" If you do run across any more info please give me a copy. Sincerely. TLM

    ABERDEEN - Retired U.S. Marine Corps LTC Don Brasfield, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his home in Aberdeen after a long illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Smithville to James Paul Brasfield and Cora Crouch Brasfield, who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a graduate of Smithville High School. He joined the U.S. Marines in October 1943. He saw action in Saigon, Tinian and Okinawa, followed by 90 days of occupation duty in North China. After being discharged in 1946, he joined the National Guard, serving until 1986. In later years he was assigned as deputy commander of the 2nd Brigade of the State Defense Force.

    In civilian life he retired in 1988 from Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. at Hamilton, where he was personnel manager. After that, he served two-and-a-half years of the unexpired term of a deceased Justice Court judge. He was mayor of Aberdeen in 1991-1996.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at River Bend Baptist Church with Dr. Roy McHenry and Dr. Eldridge Fleming officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.

    Survivors include his wife, Doris Waycaster Brasfield of Aberdeen; one son, Craig Brasfield and wife, Cheryl, of Jackson; one sister, Nell Williams and husband, J.W., of Jackson; one brother, Dane Brasfield and wife, Joyce, of Aberdeen; one granddaughter, Georgia; one grandson, Paul; nieces and nephews.

    Pallbearers will be Herman Hester, Locke Stockton, James Burrows, Harry Stewart, Arnold Richardson and Kelly Tucker.

    Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class at River Bend Baptist Church, Sonny Long, Ralph Bradley and Clyde Hampton.

    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi Inc., 16 Northtown Drive, Suite 100, Jackson, MS 39211-3058; or a charity of the donor's choice.
