    At the time this census was taken, Wilkinson county was much larger than it is
    today, taking in what is now Amite Co., and parts of other counties as well. Amite County was formed in 1809, four years after this particular census.

    Parts of the paper missing and some names smeared. I have put ‘..’ for parts
    that I can not read or am unsure of. I know some names are wrong. Some of them make no sense at all, but I tried to decipher them letter by letter.

    In a desperate attempt to find my Benjamin Parker family in St. Helena Par,
    LA in the early 1800 I have been running down any remote clues I can pursue.
    Have looked for forty years with little success. I recently came across
    your website and I must complement you on a great job. So far I have not
    gotten up the courage to post my many lines but I admire people who do.

    One question about the William Parker listed on your site. You show that
    "Lenny Brasfield" married William F. Parker sometime before 1810 and that
    Sarah Brasfield, her older sister, married Prestwood Smith 3 Mar 1806 in
    Wilkinson Co., MS. Just yesterday I looked again at the Parker marriage I
    have and in my Wilkinson Co., MS Marriages records folder I have "William
    Parker to Sarah Brasfield September 24, 1809" The marriage of Julian Parker
    and Malinda Day (Aug 28, 1837 is listed here also as well as the marriages of
    three of their sons.

    I know this is a minor detail in your large database but I don't want to go
    off on a wild goose chase if my records are wrong. Could you, when you have
    time, look at this and let me know if I have made a mistake?

    One question about the William Parker listed on your site. You show that
    "Lenny Brasfield" married William F. Parker sometime before 1810 and that
    Sarah Brasfield, her older sister, married Prestwood Smith 3 Mar 1806 in
    Wilkinson Co., MS. Just yesterday I looked again at the Parker marriage I
    have and in my Wilkinson Co., MS Marriages records folder I have "William
    Parker to Sarah Brasfield September 24, 1809" The marriage of Julian Parker
    and Malinda Day (Aug 28, 1837 is listed here also as well as the marriages of
    three of their sons.

    I know this is a minor detail in your large database but I don't want to go
    off on a wild goose chase if my records are wrong. Could you, when you have
    time, look at this and let me know if I have made a mistake?

TN. to the effect that he appointed George Petrey to be his attorney to collect from the Paymaster of the United States the wages due him for a "tower of duty" of 3 months and 26 days commencing Jan 17, 1814, as Private in Capt. Davis' company, East Tenn. Militia' * 'James Brassfield, of Claiborne Co., bought of Thomas Lay, of Cambell Co., 50 acres of land on South side of Powells River in Campbell Co., TN. Dennis M.T. It is interesting to me that Mary was only 11 years old and Arman was only 13 years old when they married. But apparently was not uncommon in those days in Kentucky and Tennessee. Also, Riley Brassfield claims to have been a nephew of James and Arman, and therefore a cousin to my GGgrandfather George Robert Riley Brassfield. But don't know who his parents were. When about fourteen years of age he began learning the harness-maker's trade in Hopkinsville, Ky., and, after becoming thoroughly acquainted with the details of the business, worked in that State for a number of years. In October, 1851, he came to Cedar County, Mo., where he made his home until 1877, when he located in Humansville. During the war he worked in Sedalia, Mo. He was married in Kentucky in 1835 to Miss Catherine Ann Elizabeth Lander, a daughter of Henry Lander, and granddaughter of Maj. Brasfield, of Clark County, Ky. They have two sons and two daughters living: Charles William, a farmer, of Vernon County, Mo., a substantial citizen of the county, and a soldier in the late war.
