    John E. Brassfield, 78, of Bedford, IN, died at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born September 2, 1923, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Paul and Vivian (Scott) Brassfield. He married Alice E. Piper on April 30, 1948, and she preceded him in death on January 31, 1993. He was a school bus driver for Shawswick school where he also drove the fan and ball boys bus, retiring after 32 years. He was well-known as the shuttle bus driver during the Damon Bailey years and an avid Bedford-North Lawrence, Indiana University and Indiana Pacers basketball fan. He attended Shawswick High School. He and his father owned and operated Brassfield Poultry and Cream Station. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, and he was a member of the Church of God. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bill Vaught of Indianapolis; one daughter-in-law, Julie Brassfield of Bedford; five grandchildren, Melinda Brown and Allison Brassfield, both of Bedford, Johnathan Vaught and Courtney Vaught, both of Indianapolis, and Cheryl Morin of Marietta, Georgia; and one great-grandson, Jarrett Layne Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one son, Donald Brassfield. Funeral services for John Brassfield will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21st, from the Elmwood Chapel at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Jon Lineback officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

    Brassfield - Donald S. Brassfield, Bedford, died suddenly on Friday, June 13, 1997. Born on November 3, 1948, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of John E. and Alice (Piper) Brassfield. On February 17, 1993, he married Julie Evans Volz, who survives.

    Also surviving are the father; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Melinda Beth) Brown and Allison Lea Brassfield, both of Bedford; one step-daughter, Cheryl Lynne Volz of Bloomington, IN; one grandson, Jarrett Layne Brown; one sister, Cindy Vaught of Indianapolis, IN; two nieces; three nephews; and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his mother.

    Donald Brassfield was a journeyman tool & die maker with Stone City Products and formerly E & M Tool in Bedford. He was a graduate of ITT with a degree in Tool Design Engineering and I.C.S. with a Degree in Tool & Die Making. He was a member of First Church of God in Bedford and a long time member of Henpecked Bowling League and Broadview Industrial Bowling Leagues.

    The funeral service for Donald Brassfield will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th, at the First Baptist Church of Bedford, with the Revs. Lewis Williams and Jon Lineback officiating. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery. Friends may call from 12-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, June 16-17, and from 9:00 a.m. till noon on Wednesday, June 18th, at Day & Carter Mortuary, and from 1:00 p.m. till service time at the First Baptist Church. Friends are asked to consider contributions to the Allison Lea Brassfield College Fund.Brassfield.
