57 | "...It must have been about the time of the Revolution that little Elizabeth Bates was stolen by the Indians. She was 12, the oldest of five children. Her parents had gone to a clear spot in the South Carolina wilderness where they had raised a crop. The group was preparing to return to the settlement, fearing an Indian attack. The father was helping the mother mount a horse when a war whoop broke the stillness. Mrs. Bates begged her husband and neighbor to run. the women and children were taken prisoners. In camp, in the evening, some of the tribe brought in scalps. Elizabeth knew by the color of the hair and the bloody clothes that her father and his helper had met their deaths. A little baby brother was born after that. then the Indians continued to retreat with their captives and in attempting to ford the swollen Roanoke River, the baby was drowned. The rest of the family were prisoners about a year. Finally the whites and Indians exchanged prisoners and the Bates family went back to the home settlement." 65 | # 1441 - Julia Wilson Brasfield, her middle name was not Eaton. According to one of her living granddaughters, her son Edwin Brasfield was very upset when the McAllister book was published showing her as Julia Eaton Wilson. I have not found any documents showing the middle name Eaton or any of her ancestors with that name. - Judy Ann Williams | WILSON, Julia (I6660)

66 | #102915 - Anna Poetta born in Putnam County MO. Her father, J.M. Brasfield, settled in Putnam Co. in the spring of 1841 and he lived there until he died. She is identified in the 1860 Census, Elm, Putnam County as Po. My original source, her grandmother, Julia Wilson Brasfield, stated "Ann Poetta, born June 1857, died Nov. 1875." Pleasant Home Cemetery records show she died 4 May 1875 - 18 yrs., 4 mos., 25 days which means she would have been born 9 Dec. 1856. (I've also seen her name as Poe and Ann). I am sure all the children of James M. and Narcissa were born in Putnam Co. (although I don't have any actual documentation). - Judy Williams | BRASFIELD, Anna Poetta (I25432)

67 | #1588 - James Madison Brasfield, born 7 July 1814 was not in the Civil War. I have seen information indicating he was, but I'm sure it is not accurate. I have read numerous bios, sketches, etc. on him and there is no mention of him serving in the Civil War, however there is information that his first 3 sons served (Richard Moberly, James Lewis and Nicholas William - I haven't found any documentation that Nicholas Wm. served). - Judy Ann Williams | BRASFIELD, James Madison (I32785)

93 | (8) WILLIAM DUNCAN, born March 29, 1790, served in the War of 1812, married March 24, 1813, Jemima S. Scott and removed to Platte county, Missouri. His wife was the daughter of Samuel Scott of Bourbon county. She died in 1837 and he was evidently married a second time. Among his children were WILLIAM and THEODORE, both of whom saw service in the War Between the States, and LOUISE, who was born 1824 and married at the age of thirteen years Gibson T. Owen who went from Henry county, Kentucky, to Missouri, and in 1846 these were the parents of two daughters and one son; and a daughter, Mary Ann, who was mentioned in a letter dated 1846 as having married and was then the mother of two daughters and one son.[12] The Kentucky Register, in obituaries published by G. Glenn Clift, gives the following: "Mrs. Elizabeth Dunn, relict of C. Dunn, and daughter of Captain William Duncan of Clay county, Mo., died in Fayette county, Ky., residence of Benjamin Scott, June 15, 1835." William Duncan, in his letters, also mentioned niece, Elizabeth Breckenridge who married, November 17, 1837, Thomas Brasfield, his cousin, John and Asa Ecton, cousins, and Elizabeth Ecton, niece. http://www.shawhan.com/duncans.html | DUNCAN, William (I24780)
